Supplies Needed
To get started, you will need the following supplies:
- Wood:
- (2) 2x4s, 23” long
- (2) 2x4s, 35” long
- (2) 2x6s, 39” long
- (1) 1×6, 23” long
- Saw
- Sander
- Measuring Tape
- Drill and drill bit
- Wood screws, 2 ½” long
- Wood glue
- Hammer and nails (1 ½” nails)
- Screw-in Hook
- Paint or stain and brushes
- Sealer (Matte Poly)
- Optional Decorative Shelf Brackets
- Free Welcome SVG file
- Cricut machine
- Permanent vinyl
- Transfer tape

Building Steps
Cut and Paint the Wood
Start by measuring and cutting your wood to the appropriate lengths. Smooth and clean up the ends and corners using a sander. Once the wood is cut, paint each side, making sure to cover the ends as well.
Build the Frame
Using the 2x4s, construct a rectangle shape. The shorter 2x4s will serve as the top and bottom of the plant stand, while the longer ones will be the sides. Drill holes where the screws will go, ensuring that the pieces of wood are aligned correctly. Attach the top and bottom pieces of wood to the sides using screws.
Add the Top and Bottom
Lay one of the 2x6s flat and apply glue down the middle. Place the wooden frame on top, aligning it properly. Drill holes and screw the pieces together from the inside. Repeat this process for the bottom of the stand, making sure the screws are on the outside of the frame. This will ensure they are not visible when the stand is standing on the ground.
Attach the Front
Take the 1×6 plate and line it up with the top of the frame, just underneath the 2×6. Nail it in place, using nails instead of screws for easier covering. Apply a sealer to the wood before adding the permanent vinyl.
Cut Out Welcome Vinyl and Apply to Plant Stand
If you don’t have the SVG file yet, you can access it in the resource library mentioned at the end of this article. Adjust the size of the image in Design Space to 4″ high. Use a large cut mat for the 24″ long vinyl. Cut the vinyl using a Cricut machine.
Weed the excess vinyl, removing the surrounding material and pulling out the insides of the letters using a weeding tool. Prepare the transfer tape and adhere it to the vinyl. Apply the vinyl to the plant stand, making sure it is aligned correctly. Remove the transfer tape, and your DIY hanging plant stand is complete!
