Leaf Spring Bushings Replacement Made Easy

Leaf Spring Bushing

Replacing the bushings in your leaf springs can be a daunting task, especially when the bolt has rusted inside the bushing. However, with the right tools and techniques, you can conquer this challenge without breaking a sweat. In this article, we will explore a step-by-step process to make the leaf spring bushing replacement a breeze.

Removing The Bushing

To begin, our forum member ‘BlackBII’ suggests using a hole saw to cut the bushing from both sides. This method ensures that the rubber is completely removed. However, there might still be some residual rubber left, which can be burned out. Take caution not to damage the spring itself during this process.

Cutting Bushing

Next, you will likely find the bushing’s metal sleeve still stuck in the spring. To remove it, you can drive it out with a chisel and hammer. Cutting it beforehand makes the task even easier. A sawzall or a hacksaw can be used for this purpose. When using a hacksaw, remove the blade, slide it through the bushing hole, and reattach it to the hacksaw for a smooth cut.

Once the bushing is removed, fold it in on itself and dispose of it. Now, it’s time to install the new bushings.
