Light Plant Rental: A Dynamic Opportunity in the Field

In the world of construction and industrial equipment rental, mechanics are the unsung heroes who keep the engines running smoothly. At Ames Farm Center, we are on the lookout for skilled mechanics who can thrive as part of a team, blending their technical expertise with effective organizational and communication skills to serve our clientele efficiently. If you’re looking for a dynamic opportunity where your knowledge, skills, and ability will be valued, this could be the perfect fit for you.

A Mechanic’s Responsibilities: Keeping the Wheels Turning

As a mechanic at Ames Farm Center, your main responsibility will be the maintenance of the equipment we rent out to our customers. We’re seeking highly motivated individuals with experience in construction and industrial equipment. If you have knowledge of hydraulics, electronics, and gas and diesel machinery, you’ll be at the top of our list.

Minimum Requirements: Skills and Qualifications

To qualify for this role, previous mechanic service experience in the equipment rental or construction industry is preferred. Additionally, you must hold a valid California Driver’s License and have a driving record in good standing. We believe that a positive attitude and excellent verbal communication are essential in our line of work. A professional and clean appearance, the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and the aptitude to work well with minimal direct supervision are also crucial.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Going the Extra Mile

Your day-to-day tasks will include greeting customers and providing assistance, safely traveling to and from customer locations, and demonstrating the use of rental equipment. You’ll quickly and safely troubleshoot worksite equipment repairs, ensuring that a variety of construction equipment and tools are maintained and made rental ready.

Performing timely checkouts and check-ins, inspecting equipment for damage, and recording hours used, mileage, and fuel levels will also be part of your routine. As a mechanic at Ames Farm Center, you may also be responsible for pick-ups and deliveries of equipment and parts to and from outside vendors and other locations.

Education, Experience, and Required Skills

To be considered for this position, a high school diploma or equivalent is required, as well as a valid California driver’s license. We value experience and typically look for candidates who have at least 1-2 years of relevant work experience. Having your own tools is a must.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Being a mechanic can be physically demanding, and you’ll need to be prepared for various challenges. Activities that require handling and grasping with your hands will be a regular part of your job, as will the occasional use of foot pedals to test equipment operation. Lifting weights of up to 75 lbs and walking or standing on concrete and uneven surfaces for extended periods are also part of the role. Climbing over and into heavy equipment and occasional work at heights above 10 ft may be required. You should also be prepared for exposure to bright lights, extreme temperatures, loud noise, dust, gas, and fumes.
