Plant Pot For Bamboo

Three 72" Black Sugi Bamboo Planters creating a privacy screen along a fence-line

When it comes to planting bamboo, having the right container is crucial. Introducing our Sugi Bamboo Planters, designed with a stylish trapezoidal shape that is specifically crafted for bamboo containment. These planters are meticulously handcrafted using premium Japanese and Western Red Cedar, reinforced with 60 mil HDPE Bamboo Barrier. Lloyd Dubois, the mastermind behind the Planter Studio, invented this ingenious creation, which is built on-site at Bamboo Garden.

Please note that once you place an order, there is a 2-4 week waiting period before the planter is completed and ready to be shipped. The maximum height these planters can accommodate ranges from 10 to 20 feet, depending on the bamboo species you choose. The dry weight of the planter is approximately 80 lbs, but when filled with bamboo and soil, it can weigh between 300-400 lbs (soil and bamboo not included in cost).

A Smart Alternative

Our new Sugi Bamboo Planters provide an excellent alternative to planting bamboo directly in the ground. In areas where planting in the ground is not feasible, such as gravel parking strips or patios, the desire for tall screening remains. Our cold-hardy bamboo varieties can grow into a beautiful 10 to 20-foot evergreen screen, providing both privacy and aesthetic value. For added protection, these planters are lined with a durable 60 mil rhizome barrier.

The bottom of the planter features a metal grate and landscape fabric that effectively holds the soil in place. Three pressure-treated 2x4s secure the metal grate, allowing for easy removal and division of the bamboo. Our unique open-bottom design empowers you to push the bamboo out from the bottom of the planter effortlessly.

Easy Maintenance, Healthy Growth

Our Sugi Bamboo Planters are designed to accommodate over 10 years of healthy bamboo growth. Wood, being a natural insulator, offers protection against extreme temperatures. The planters come pre-lined with a 60 mil rhizome barrier, which is firmly fastened into the cedar along the top, bottom, and corners. To maintain the plant’s health, we recommend conducting maintenance once or twice a year, which involves pulling rhizomes away from the outer edge of the barrier while thinning and removing older canes.

During the summer, it’s essential to ensure that the bamboo receives adequate water. We recommend installing a simple drip irrigation system to fulfill the plant’s water needs, as container-grown bamboo is less drought resistant compared to those planted in the ground. Additionally, fertilizing the bamboo with a high nitrogen fertilizer 2-3 times a year will promote healthy growth.
